Very excited that the Fete blog featured my aerial shot of Pippin Hill today. Though the rumors of Jennifer Aniston getting married there have died down, it wasn’t hard to believe this is where she may have chosen to have her wedding.
Morgan, Erik and I had a great time, despite some rain, wandering downtown DC for their engagement session. Looking forward to their September wedding at Montpelier with Amore Events by Cody.
Sarah and Paul were married this past May at beautiful Delfosse Vineyards in Nelson County, Virginia. I’m excited to share some images from their big day! Many thanks to the awesome team of vendors who helped make this day so amazing: Sandy Goodson of Verde Natural Florals, Skyline Tent Company, MS Events, 20 South Music, C&O Restaurant, officiant Sarabeth Whedbee and my wonderful second shooter for the day, Kirsten Rose.

All weddings are special but perhaps this one is more so for me personally because the bride is my awesome sister-in-law. This wedding was the whole package: elegant, fun, sentimental and joyful. As my wife has said, everyone was beaming, not just the bride and groom. There is something to be said about second weddings. The couples tend to be a little older and there is more history to their story. No details here, but let’s just say that all of us who know and love Dawna, wanted nothing more than for her to find just the right guy. It took a while (close to 17 years), but she did just that. Jon is her rock and together they exemplify all that should be sought after in a happy, solid relationship.
Dawna and Jon chose to do something a little different for their ceremony. They asked their good friend Dia, who is not a minister but became ordained, to officiate their ceremony. She did an amazing job and had everyone in tears most of the time, whether it was from laughter or pure emotional joy. Here are a few excerpts from Dia’s thoughtful sermon:
“This marriage is not just uniting two people, Dawna and Jon are so accomplished and well revered that this union extends beyond them. This marriage brings together the Damrens a sprawling clan full of merriment and love, with the Clarkes, a tight knit unit of unwavering support and fierce loyalty.”
“This marriage unites Dawna, a woman whose kindness, gentleness, thoughtfulness and generosity is unmatched by anyone I’ve ever met, with the only man I know who comes close to deserving her. And Jon, a man so loving, warm, affectionate and honorable that it is impossible to deny that Dawna is his perfect match.”
“This Brady-bunch-esque merging of families shares a deep loyalty, even in the face of inconvenience. A humor that knows no bounds and a spirituality that welcomes all and denigrates none. These two people personify what it means to be the best of humanity.”
“I have known Dawna and Josh for over a dozen years, and I’ve lived with them for the last 6. I know them as well as anyone can know people that they love and see most every day. Josh is so much a nephew to me that when we meet people and they hear me introduce him as such, I am confused at their confusion and then I remember that we don’t look alike…he’s much taller.”
“I have known Jon and Brittany for a little over 4 years now. And I consider Brittany to be a niece, down to my embarrassing questions about her love life, grades and future plans. The clear love and joy that the Damren’s have for Dawna and Josh, I hope will bring a high measure of comfort for the Clarke family.”
The beauty of this wedding was in its big, giant collective heart. I am really very grateful I had the honor of documenting this day. Please enjoy a few photos from their wedding which took place at the Home Hill Inn, in Plainfield, NH.
For the last few years I’ve had the pleasure to second shoot with Jen Fariello Photography. Not only is Jen a brilliant photographer, she’s also a good friend and the co-founder of our Art of Photography Learning Series. Here are some of my favorites shots I took this past year while second shooting with Jen.
Maya and Mark are a fantastic couple…fun, silly, smart and just so nice. I had a great time photographing their wedding. They are UVA alums so we spent a lot of time on Grounds and walking to their favorite spots on the Corner. After their ceremony at the UVA Chapel, the newlyweds and their friends and family took a trolley to The Ivy Inn. Cody Grannis of Amore Events by Cody did an amazing job making the entire event special and beautiful.
Despite the rain, Laura and Lenny’s wedding was a spectacular event. Sure, the rain was not part of the plan, but nothing was going to get in the way of the joy of this day. Laura glowed and Lenny beamed. I love that their children and other family members were such an integral part of the ceremony, with Laura’s young son walking her down the aisle and her daughter and step-daughter starring as her bridesmaids. Very, very sweet. Enjoy this sneak peek!
This past year I had the pleasure to second shoot on a few occasions with my good friend and Art of Photography partner, Jen Fariello. Thought I’d share some of my favorites.
How did I miss posting this? Here is a little peek from Sharifa and Eric’s beautiful October wedding. Sharifa has been both of my daughters’ preschool teacher for many years and my family thinks the world of her. It was an honor and privilege to document this very happy occasion.
I’m so glad I was able to be a part of Christine and Chuck’s Christmas Eve wedding. It was an intimate ceremony in an amazingly quaint church set in the Virginia countryside. Best wishes for a great 2012 Christine and Chuck!
What I loved about this wedding was its simplicity. It was all about family and an intimate ceremony. There were not tons of details to be photographed…just people and the emotions of the evening. Paige and Bill were a lot of fun and it was truly an honor to be able to photograph their wedding. Other than the photos of the couple, I have to say my favorite photos are of the wedding crasher, a squirrel who helped himself to a cracker off the table.
This past year, I’ve had several opportunities to work as a second shooter for the brilliant Jen Fariello. What a great job…spending the day with insanely happy people in gorgeous locations. Here is a small sampling of some of my work. Hope you enjoy!
